build email | how to create an address group in outlook

Keep in mind the form fields that serve as major turn-offs for most users. I myself HATE giving out my phone number – when filling out a free offer, if my phone number is required, more than a few times I’ve simply left and abandoned the offer.
Downloadable resources can be an incredible source of new email leads. They also provide prospects with useful information that helps them get more use out of your product—so they’re a win all-around.
Once you’ve decided on your incentive, your next job is to create a landing page – sometimes called a squeeze page. A squeeze page is simply a page on your website that is 100% focused on getting people to subscribe to your mailing list. Here’s what we mean:
I also love Cook Smarts’ “Forward to a Friend” call-to-action in the top-right of the email. Emails are super shareable over — you guessed it — email, so you should also think about reminding your subscribers to forward your emails to friends, family, or coworkers.
Email marketing is significantly cheaper and faster than traditional mail, mainly because of the high cost and time required in a traditional mail campaign for producing the artwork, printing, addressing, and mailing.
First of all, I must admit that I didn’t read all those entries in that list. Seeing the sheer size of that list, I made up my mind to bookmark it and devour the entire list slowly, taking my own sweet time 🙂

In the 2017 edition of the Fortune Global 500 list, Asia is now home to 197 companies, followed by North America (145 companies) and Europe (143 companies), and the rest of the world has a mere 15 companies on the list.
If this is the first page you’ve come to on the Building Guide, have a look around if you’re building or renovating. We have a load of advice around key things you need to know, some hints and tips and advice around insurances or  guaranteeing your builder and their work, financing your project, costs of building and product options that will help your project run smoother, give you what you want and reduce the likelihood of things going wrong…
Now you have your lead magnet, and you need somewhere to advertise it and a way to deliver it to people who sign up. Make things easy on yourself by choosing a landing page builder that integrates well with your email autoresponder service and allows you to create an effective landing page without having to master new tech skills.
Art, it depends on what your prospects already know. If giving them the first five steps will help them immediately (ie, create real value by solving some problem or giving them some information that is top-of-mind for them) — plus help them see how important the rest of the course will be — then that would definitely be a good strategy.
These are the kinds of things you’ll need to address if you want to be successful in phase 1. Simply posting “enter your email for updates” isn’t going to get anyone excited to do so. Instead, consider sharing specifics:
Thanks for the information. I always wondered about Ben Settle’s and Social Trigger’s splash pages. I didn’t know the names of these pages so I assumed they are some sort of pop ups. So how do you create a splash page? Is there a plugin for it or a software to buy?
you are writing a lot about pop ups for building the list. I agree with you and do the same. However, from January 10, Google promises to start punishing the mobile sites with pop ups. In your opinion, how it will affect ecommerce sites and pop up providers?
The most egregious example of terrible give-the-payoff copy is on buttons. Often we even forget to change the default text—“Submit”. (In case this has slipped by you before, go look up “submit” in the dictionary—and then think about whether it carries the kinds of connotations that make for the best relationships with customers.) The button is not the only place where marketers forget to emphasize what their prospects get, but it is the most obvious place. Below I’ve included some examples of typical button copy, with suggested improvements for improving their implied value by reframing them in terms of your prospect:
ActiveCampaign is an email marketing software oriented more towards marketing automation. Based on the actions and behavior of your subscribers, you can add tags on their profile that will reveal more about them using ActiveCampaign Lead Tags + OptinMonster.
One of the smarter ways to gather email leads online is to simply integrate email into your product’s usage. The most basic technique here is requiring an email to sign up (which most companies do), but this is also an opportunity to get creative.
The reason to put them behind an email opt-in (besides the obvious benefit of growing your list) is to qualify the people signing up; only the most interested customers will bother with an email form to access the content that suits their needs.
Again, the real estate market has bounced back from the burst housing bubble of 2007 and nearly all connected businesses have been reaping benefits. This ancillary sector cracked the Sageworks list this year with a profit margin of 10.8%.
Design Matching takes the design on the display ad and repeats it on the landing page. Ensuring the look, feel and sentiment is the same in order to smooth the transition between clicking the ad and completing a conversion.
To answer your question, it’s actually really hard to say. I’ve been using these techniques for so long that I don’t really have a baseline funnel to compare to. However, my impression is that more opt-ins fattens up the whole funnel *and* increases drop-off in the funnel 🙂
Email 7: Last day before closing – first email. Tell your subscribers that there are 24 hours left and your product won’t be available after that. Remind them what they’re going to learn in your program and what the benefits are.
Email marketing is the act of sending a commercial message, typically to a group of people, using email. In its broadest sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing. It usually involves using email to send advertisements, request business, or solicit sales or donations, and is meant to build loyalty, trust, or brand awareness. Marketing emails can be sent to a purchased lead list or a current customer database. The term usually refers to sending email messages with the purpose of enhancing a merchant’s relationship with current or previous customers, encouraging customer loyalty and repeat business, acquiring new customers or convincing current customers to purchase something immediately, and sharing third-party ads.
Hi Jennie. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it. For me, the best way to increase the ROI of email marketing is to segment your audience. Treat your subscribers like individuals and create campaigns that are tailored to their needs. That’s where I would start if I were to create an email marketing strategy.
MadMimi is cheaper than MailChimp and it gives users lots of addons that make alot of sense. Imagine, you can’t automate with MailChimp free 2000 option while MadMimi allows you to set up drips even when you are on the free plan. You can plug in rss feed, the interface is so simple to use (drag n drop) etc.
Some really fantastic marketing strategies here. Pop-ups do come across as very annoying and rude but it’s true that they do work really, really well. Perhaps surprisingly email converts better than any other channel such as facebook or twitter and pop-ups have been proven to collect the most email address of visitors.

There are times when you’ll want to send to your entire list, but taking advantage of MailChimp’s segmentation tools can significantly increase the click-through rates and e-commerce orders your campaigns generate. Create custom segments from data you’ve collected for your subscribers—like e-commerce activity and email engagement—or, if you’re new to segments, use one of our pre-built segments to make targeting people on your list even easier. And with our predicted demographics tool, you can zero in on who is opening your emails—their gender and age range—and let that guide how you segment and what content you send.
The purpose of the transactional landing page is to persuade a visitor to take action by completing a transaction. This is accomplished by providing a form that needs to be filled out. The visitor information is obtained in order to add the visitor’s email address to a mailing list as a prospect. An email campaign can then be developed based on responses to transactional landing pages. The goal is to capture as much information about the visitor as possible. The ultimate goal is to convert the visitor into a customer.[citation needed]
Exactly what I was looking for, Brian. I have started a SEO blog recently and your post will surely help me to implement many things ! 🙂 Your contents are so huge that it’s hard to consume in one sitting ..lol ..Read a lot , it’s implementation time now 😉 Keep up the great work buddy !
Email marketing is a great way to stay in touch with past clients and prospects, but it’s not enough. You must also continue to build your list by adding new people all the time. Hopefully, you’re already doing this online. What about asking “offline” (the good old-fashioned way)?
Video/Multimedia Elements: Video and multimedia elements will help keep a visitor’s attention and can be used to provide additional information that you can cut out from the copy, leaving you with cleaner, less distracting piles of text. Please for the love of all things beautiful, avoid using audio. I have yet to see audio elements used well. They are at their best obnoxious and at their worst terrifying. I promise you, no one is staying on your squeeze page because of your soothing angelic voice describing the benefits of fish oil vitamin supplements.

HubSpot is an all-in-one marketing software that goes far beyond just email marketing. It’s designed to meet the needs of medium to large businesses, as it also helps them with SEO, attracting, nurturing and converting leads. You can use it to send highly relevant emails using HubSpot Lists + OptinMonster.
Emails triggered by milestones, like anniversaries and birthdays, are fun to get — who doesn’t like to celebrate a special occasion? The beauty of anniversary emails, in particular, is that they don’t require subscribers to input any extra data, and they can work for a variety of senders. Plus, the timeframe can be modified based on the business model.
Hit send and post emails to your social networks (we’ll suggest the captions and images) all at once. Our real-time tracking tools report who’s opening, clicking, and sharing your emails and social posts, so you can plan your next steps.
16) Link to offers that capture email signups throughout your website. Don’t make people dig around your site to stumble across subscription options. Keep your offers up front, and include calls-to-action on just about every page of your website. Key places to consider are your website’s homepage, the main page of your blog, your ‘About Us’ page, and your ‘Contact Us’ page.
As a growing business, you may also be looking for a CRM solution, and you’ll find that the more advanced email marketing services have begun to crossover into CRM. A handful of these services are one-stop shops, either offering both email marketing and CRM out of the box or as add-on services.
Carol Walczaks Build Your List with Ease ebook is a deceptively simple, but marvelously complete roadmap to list-building! With the assistance of Carols ebook, even the novice can be up-and-running in no time, building their all-important list. In my opinion, Build Your List with Ease is five-star-perfect for the beginner who simply doesnt know where to begin.
Have you ever noticed that when you first join an email list, you tend to read almost every email? But then, over time, you start to lose interest and read less and less—even if you don’t unsubscribe?
Save any new documentation as a PDF for download, and require that individuals enter their names and email addresses in order to access it. The value of the information you are offering is directly proportional to the amount of personal data your customers are willing to provide, so make sure the tradeoff is fair. A highly anticipated white paper or report can garner a high number of new email subscribers who are openly expressing interest in your brand, so don’t leave this opportunity unaddressed.
Initially the interruption from what you originally went to the site to read can be annoying. But then you see what is being offered to you and it turns out to be totally worth it. All you need to do is give away your email address – usually with the acceptance that you’ll be marketed to – and you’ll get a free eBook, an email series of useful information, or “subscriber exclusive” video content, for instance.
If you are having trouble with this, send out an email asking for a quick five minute chat. On the call, you can ask questions that will help you understand what your subscribers needs are, and how they think.
Offer a reward for customers who buy something from you and show that they checked in at your business on Foursquare using their mobile device. When they do this, they’re telling everyone in their network that they’ve done business with you. Each month, reward the person who gave you the greatest exposure by offering a discount, and asking for their email address.
Message Matching is the idea of matching the pre-click message to the post-click message on the landing page.[11] The goal of message matching is to create a landing page that directs individuals to a page on a product or subject they are expecting.
All email clients are created differently, which means that the campaign you designed in MailChimp might look slightly different in your subscribers’ inboxes. There are some similarities in how certain email clients render HTML email, but we recommend testing any email clients that have a strong presence on your list.
If a visitor likes what they see when they land on your site, they’ll be more likely to sign up for your newsletter. Makes sense, right? Since a piece of content shared on social media might be their entry point, you have to make sure that content is compelling enough to prompt them to subscribe. You can even tease them by promising your next great piece delivered straight to their inbox (which saves them the time of hunting it down on their own) if they subscribe.
This article was really helpful and I will save it in my favs. I am looking to take my natural health and beauty business online and I wanted to make use of an opt-in or splash page. I am a bit puzzled as to what to offer in exchange of their email. At the physical location of my products I am experimenting with offering a free peace of natural soap. The 2 Oz sample that I offer only cost me about 40 cents. My logic is that my chances for a great ROI are pretty high being that most customers really like the soap. Should I have the same offer to the online customers? I would have to ship the soap, but couldn’t I pass that cost to the potential customer? I would appreciate any help. Thank you
Wow – amazingly in depth post on list building! I am having a real focus on this (just installed my lead magnet which is doing well) but there is a tonne of things I still need to focus on. Thanks for the tips.
So, as an example, if you run an online store that sells sweat shirts, you may hear from your customer something like this: “I’ve bought a few other sweat shirts and they always fell apart in the wash. I’m hoping your sweat shirt will last longer!”
When you send out an invoice, include an option to sign up for email communications with you. Again, sweeten the deal by offering an incentive such as a discount or free shipping on the next order as a reward for providing email addresses.
Make sense for your audience. You probably have skills and expertise that could be useful for a wide variety of people, but at this point you only need to highlight the information that immediately impacts the lives of the audience you’re marketing to.
Closed-ended experimentation. Consumers are exposed to several variations of landing pages, altering elements like headlines, formatting and layout while their behavior is observed in an attempt to remove distractions that will take the lead away from the page, including the primary navigation.[9] At the conclusion of the experiment, an optimal page is selected based on the outcome of the experiment.
You want to be present everywhere your target audience is (blogs, forums, social media etc) and constantly ‘in their face’ (in a good way) delivering value and being helpful in order to drive them back to your site.
More importantly, in a survey of 18,808 users, over 50% reported that popups affected their opinion of the advertiser very negatively. Almost 40% said it affected their opinion of the website very negatively.
The point of a squeeze page is to collect leads. In other words, squeeze pages are lead generation tools. That means, if you want to promote your products or services, you need a squeeze pages to gather your audience, the people who have interest in what you have to offer. Squeeze pages are a perfect tool to collect emails, name, phone numbers so you can build your relationship with your audience.
One of the best ways to do this is to go down the series email route. This allows you to send many emails, which will build your relationship as your reader gets used to receiving information from you. Since the content will be sent out over a series, it makes digesting that content easier than if it were all to be sent in one go. This makes email series more beneficial than white papers (however, bear in mind that certain audiences, like businesses, appreciate the hefty amount of information that’s supplied in a white paper).
Hi Jennie. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it. For me, the best way to increase the ROI of email marketing is to segment your audience. Treat your subscribers like individuals and create campaigns that are tailored to their needs. That’s where I would start if I were to create an email marketing strategy.
There are plenty of plugins on the market that will help you to do this, I did put together a post about WordPress list building plugins which you can find here but I’ll summarize the main plugins and which opt-in types they support below.
But before you get rid of them, try sending a last-ditch-effort email to try to re-engage your inactive subscribers. For example, Carol Tice sends a last-ditch-effort email to her inactive subscribers that says, “Do I bore you?” and asks if they still want to stay subscribed. Some people respond, but all others get purged.
Couple your sign-up boxes with a clear description of “what’s in it for them.” Let customers know exactly what to expect when signing up, and sell the benefits for being on your email list. This can be as simple as promoting the general advantages of the channel — such as being able to receive information and offers faster and that it’s eco-friendly.
Day of the Week As with hour of the day, it’s hard to come by best practices for timing in this regard. For some lists, weekends will be amazing, and for others they will be so dead you could swear you just saw a tumbleweed roll by. The answer again here is to test it and see which day(s) work for you.
To answer your question, it’s actually really hard to say. I’ve been using these techniques for so long that I don’t really have a baseline funnel to compare to. However, my impression is that more opt-ins fattens up the whole funnel *and* increases drop-off in the funnel 🙂
According to this study conducted by the Nielsen Group, people scan emails very quickly (51 seconds), and the only areas they give any appreciable amount of time to at all are the initial copy and headlines.
Are the ones added to the end of this list new or recent additions to the list? Macrame and military diet are two weird niches I am surprised to see. I wonder how viable they would be as website? Have you done any additional research on them that I can access?

I found your blog today from the guest post you did for Matt Woodward (which I thought was superb), I just joined your list – which goes to prove that guest blogging does work if you put the effort in to making it high quality.
One of a small business’s best marketing assets is a healthy email list. While proper management and use of your email file will drive revenue immensely, it is often a challenge to create the email list itself. With inbox clutter on the rise and customers becoming more sensitive toward any unwanted communication, marketers should develop their subscriber lists with relevance and care.

More than 80% visitors to your site will never come back. That’s why having an offer for people when they are about to exit your page is vital to increase your conversion rate. Having exit popup has been proven to increase conversion rate of landing pages multiple times. Creating popups in WP Lead Plus X Pro is very simple.
When people talk about email marketing, lots of them forget to mention transactional emails. These are the automated emails you get in your inbox after taking a certain action on a website. This could be anything from filling out a form, to purchasing a product, to updating you on the progress of your order. Often, these are plain text emails that marketers set and forget.
Groups are an easy way to organize your list into categories so that you only need to maintain a single list in your account. Let’s say you have an e-commerce store and use your MailChimp account to communicate with sales representatives, retail locations that sell some of your products, and customers. The logical step might seem to be creating separate lists to track these three audiences, but adding them to groups on one list is a similar concept that can save you money. You can then build segments for these groups and send campaigns that are relevant to them.
Google’s parent company amassed $16.3 billion in profits—an impressive start for its first year as a holding company. Although Alphabet’s (goog) other businesses including Fiber, Verily, Calico, Nest, and X—suffered operating losses amounting to $3.6 billion, Google’s core digital ad business continued to generate enormous profits. Revenues from mobile search as well as YouTube were the key drivers of Alphabet’s earnings this year, amounting to $16.3 billion.
When using this tactic, make sure to email new subscribers as soon as you possibly can. Chances are that a significant amount of time has passed since they mailed the form, and it’s crucial to keep your brand fresh in their minds and continue the dialog.
WP Lead Plus X is a user-friendly-first landing page builder plugin. It doesn’t have an exhaustive list of elements. Currently, there are less than 10 elements. That’s why you will find this page builder plugin is so simple to use.
Placing a clear and conspicuous form on your Website will help facilitate email sign-ups for your Website visitors. This common acquisition practice is not only effective, but also very easy to implement. There are a few important things to consider when employing this tactic:
New visitors generally need an incentive to leave an email address, but returning visitors to your site are 10 times more likely to leave an email address. That said, to grab those new visitors, offer a freebie such as a discount or an insider’s guide to encourage people to subscribe.

email list programs | email marketing business

So how do the most engaged newsletters keep their open and click-through rates so high? The secret boils down to using proven psychological principles that invoke curiosity, grab the reader, and compel them to take action.
Scarcity AKA Missing-Out-Syndrome: Scarcity elements push a user to take advantage of an offer NOW rather than mulling it over. Pushing your offer as a “limited-time deal” can encourage visitors to take the plunge.
The second option is to put your customers in an autoresponder series. This is a series of emails that you set up in advance and scheduled to send to new subscribers within a specific timeframe as they join your list.
I found your blog today from the guest post you did for Matt Woodward (which I thought was superb), I just joined your list – which goes to prove that guest blogging does work if you put the effort in to making it high quality.
Offer a reward for customers who buy something from you and show that they checked in at your business on Foursquare using their mobile device. When they do this, they’re telling everyone in their network that they’ve done business with you. Each month, reward the person who gave you the greatest exposure by offering a discount, and asking for their email address.
It doesn’t have to be. You can start by using auto-responders in your customer service software to replicate the automation aspect. That’s what we do for all of our existing triggered emails and we’re happy with it.
With more than 12.4 million page views, CEOWORLD magazine is the world’s leading business magazine written strictly for CEOs, CFOs, senior management executives, business leaders, and high net worth individuals worldwide.
With most email marketing tools a welcome email will be part of your auto responder, but if you are using MailChimp, you could customize the ‘Final welcome email’ which is what subscribers are sent straight after they sign up.
Slideshare is a great way to tap into a new group of targeted readers and because the traffic you get will be highly targeted and already value what you have to say, they will be more likely to opt-in to download your content upgrade.
Navigation Bar: People often expect email signup and login buttons placed at the top of websites in the navigation bar or in the footer. Use that space for a button that urges visitors to subscribe. For example, the Centre for Social Innovation has their newsletter signup box in that location.
Hey Steven, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog post. The tips and tricks are perfect, and they will prove to be helpful for all sorts of business organizations. They speak openly about the reality of email marketing.
3. Email converts better. People who buy products marketed through email spend 138% more than those who do not receive email offers. In fact, email marketing has an ROI of 3800%. That’s huge! And if you are wondering if social media converts even better, think again: the average order value of an email is at least three times higher than that of social media.
I created the page above using LeadPages*; it’s a paid tool (starts from $37/month) that makes landing pages super quick to create. It hosts them for you, integrates well with WordPress and you get access to the HTML code to use outside of WordPress.
**If the content you are offering is not a large file, it’s possible to store it on Mailchimp’s servers rather than your own. This eliminates the need for a password protected page. In my case, the file was too large, but yours may not be. If so, all the steps are the same except step 4. After you’ve created your content, go directly to step five and customize your opt-in confirmation and welcome email. Instead of linking to a WordPress page, you are going to link directly to the file. Click on the link button in mailchimp, and change the dropdown to FILE. Upload your file and then you are all set!
WP Lead Plus Free Squeeze Page Creator is a really good option as it makes creating and editing a squeeze page a breeze. It has a one-page autoresponder feature, so you just need to plugin the code and you don’t need to worry about sending the communications. You’re able to add your logo or choose a background, plus choose one of the 20 stunning template options. You can integrate with Facebook to allow your readers to leave comments. You’re able to check your conversion results through the analysis feature.
Rather than allowing every single email you send to be broadcasted to your entire email list, segmentation allows you to send each email only to those subscribers who you think will be the most interested in the content, thus resulting in higher conversions.
Promotional emails are one of the most economical ways for any business to connect with customers. Research shows a message is five times more likely to be seen through email than on social media like Facebook or Twitter. That’s why musicians use email marketing software to share their performance schedule with their fans, non-profits use it to get donations and photographers use it to promote their portrait services. It just works.
Your open rate will tell you how well you’ve built your relationship; if the number is low, it means that people have started to delete upon receipt, which means you need to work harder on providing value and/or managing expectations.
You won’t have to fall into that camp though, because today we’re going to go over how to take your startup’s blog and refine it into a conversion building machine—and the best part is that simplicity is the foundational element, so you won’t have to worry about coding up a ton of random features.
As consumers, we are therefore naturally more receptive to things in our inbox— which most of us tend to guard like a mother bear guards her cubs—because they are filled with things we elect to see with some privacy.
Imagine you are meeting a blind date at a restaurant. You’ve been told only the basic facts – male, 30’s, good job, wants kids. He sits down, you start to chat and learn more about him, when suddenly he whips out a box containing an engagement ring, gets down on one knee and asks you to marry him, tells you he needs an answer RIGHT NOW.
Google’s parent company moved up nine spots on the Fortune 500 this year thanks to a banner 2016 in which sales increased more than 20%, and earnings grew nearly as much, blowing past Wall Street’s expectations. The core Google (googl) search and advertising business provided a hefty cushion for Alphabet’s so-called other bets, which include everything from biotech unit Calico to self-driving car division Waymo. Though such moonshots managed to generate 81% more revenue in 2016 compared to the year before, they also had higher losses, of $3.6 billion—and they still account for less than 1% of Alphabet’s overall sales.
The good news is, you don’t have to learn everything all at once. In this post, I am going to help you understand one of the most basic (and important) digital marketing concepts that you can use to grow your business online.
If they haven’t been to the site before, the absolutely MOST important thing to do is capture them before they leave. Most people bounce right off a site, never to return. That’s a lot of wasted potential. Research shows that you can increase revenue as much as 4,800% just by following up with prospects — so if you have no way of doing that, you’re throwing a whole heck of a lot of money away.
When you send an email, include a forward-to-a-friend link in case recipients want to forward your content to someone they think will find it interesting. Make sure the link directs newcomers to a page with your opt-in form.
Just make sure that it is easy to remove with a large and clear X, otherwise the interruption could lead to a negative user experience. This is especially so if your website isn’t responsive (which, by the way, it should be in this digital age), as it’s hard to move the page to where it needs to be to click on the X.
Everyone goes to the dentist twice a year, right? Seriously, this is an industry with constant demand and, like other health care-related areas, it should see even greater demand as the number of insured patients continues to grow thanks to implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Profit margins for the most recent 12 months was 14.9%, compared to 12.7% last year.
Thanks Tammy. Great point: popups are extra annoying on a mobile. I wish there was a way to turn off popups for mobile visitors or at least make the popup responsive. That would be an awesome feature for a popup software product.
Gilead Sciences — an American pharmaceutical company — falls in between the mortgage loaners. With $1.5 million in profits per employee, Gilead came in second on Expert Market’s ranking. In total, 10 pharmaceutical companies made their way to the top 100.
GetResponse allows you to create responsive emails and autoresponders with A/B testing capability built in. You can also send targeted emails to specific subscribers using GetResponse Campaigns + OptinMonster.
At LeadPages, we offer customizable squeeze page templates that are perfect for beginners. Our clean designs are proven to perform well, and you can sort them by conversion rate to see how they are working for other businesses.
No words, its simply amazing, thanks for sharing this awesome list. As one mentioned earlier, its challenging to select one from the list. But yes after doing some research, will take a decision, thanks again.
Email marketing is one of the most cost-effective marketing tool. It is easy to manage, gives you full control and allows you to establish direct contact with your customers. For more on this topic, see our guide on why you should start building your email list right away.
So while you may not be able–or interested–in starting a business in one of these areas, the following should at the very least give you some good ideas…and some good ideas for what types of businesses you might want to avoid.
Though Microsoft falls three spots on the Fortune 500 this year after a nearly 9% sales decline in 2016, its aggressive cost cuts (including 7,800 layoffs announced in 2015) are paying off for the company’s bottom line: Microsoft (msft) grew profits almost 38% last year, beating Wall Street expectations. It wasn’t just the cutbacks that made the difference. The company also attributed its impressive earnings to its booming cloud services business Azure, which is now competitive with the huge cloud-services division Amazon (amzn) and is much more profitable than Microsoft’s legacy technology products.

Not only is InVision’s newsletter a great mix of content, but I also love the nice balance between images and text, making it really easy to read and mobile-friendly — which is especially important, because its newsletters are so long. (Below is just an excerpt, but you can read through the full email here.) We like the clever copy on the call-to-action buttons, too.
Popup: Popups are a great way to get in front of your users and encourage them to subscribe. However, you want to make sure you’re reaching the right people at the right time. With AddThis List Building Tools, you can display a popup based on specific behaviors, such as when a returning visitor lands on your site, after they’ve viewed a certain number of pages, or on exit intent (right before they’re about to leave your page). Companies like Xerox have been able to grow their email lists by 540% using these list building tools. Here’s a great example from the PR agency Onboardly:
Adjust Language to Emphasize Value for Users : Make sure you promote the payoff and emphasize the benefits of your offer. Also make sure to adjust your button language from the generic “submit” to something more relevant like “Download Templates” or “Send Me my Free Kitten Shaving Guide” etc.
1) Create remarkable email content. Your content needs to be amazing if you want people to stay subscribed and forward your emails to their friends, family, and colleagues that aren’t already on your email list.

I’m here to tell you that’s totally normal. Part of the challenge is that digital marketing, like many disciplines, has its very own language. And it certainly doesn’t help anyone out when different marketers speak different dialects.
I paid for the rebranding offer for this ebook. This is an outstanding ebook, I have just spent an hour reading it and the other ebooks included with it. I have learned so much, and will be putting into practice all that I have learned. I plan on reading everything here, thanks for overdelivering!

Remember: in this age of information, everyone is looking for a reason to ignore your emails. They aren’t looking for a reason to read them. But if you appeal to them on a personal level, you’ll stand a better chance of getting an open.
This industry sector tops the list with a net profit margin of 19.8%, an improvement over the revised 16.3% from last year. Like several other service-based industries on this list, accounting et al. make for consistently profitable businesses because they are generally in demand and can operate with fairly low overhead and equipment costs.

The CAN-SPAM Act was updated with some new regulations including a no-fee provision for opting out, further definition of “sender”, post office or private mail boxes count as a “valid physical postal address” and definition of “person”. These new provisions went into effect on July 7, 2008.[21] [22]
Walmart – the US retail giant that owns Asda in the UK – retained the top spot for the third year in a row, despite its total sales falling in 2015. It has been investing heavily in its stores and in ecommerce in a bid to recapture market share from Amazon.
A good call-to-action button tells people what to do and why, clearly and quickly. Try “Download Now,” “Claim My Spot,” or “Yes, I Want the Free Report,” all of which indicate both an action and the end result of that action (implicitly or explicitly). Buttons that do both these things are typically more effective than ones that focus on just one, such as “Click Here” or “Free Report.”
For effective list building, you need to know the answer to three key questions: Why would someone subscribe to your email list? Where should you collect email addresses? And how should you ask people to sign up?
After carrying out a deliberate and gradual plan to shrink and simplify the company, including divesting much of its Latin America business, Citigroup (c) declared its restructuring efforts complete in 2016. That left the bank with lower revenues (down nearly 7% to $82.4 billion last year) and profits (down almost 14%), as expected, but Citi CEO Michael Corbat still felt obliged to say in the company’s annual report that “our performance last year fell short.” Investors didn’t seem to agree: Citi stock gained nearly 16% in 2016, as the bank also returned more money to shareholders in the form of an increased dividend and stock buybacks.
Landing pages originated with the IT departments of Microsoft in late 2003 in response to poor online sales of Office.[5] The process was tedious and time-consuming. As a result, in 2009, several startups, including Unbounce, were formed to simplify and streamline the process. The rise of cloud computing and e-commerce around 2009 provided ideal conditions for these startups to flourish.[5] Since then the customer requirements changed, requesting integrations with other solutions such as email marketing, lead nurturing and customer relationship management systems.
13) Use Pinterest to promote offers that require email sign-up. For example, HubSpot created a Pinterest board where we pin the well-designed covers of our marketing ebooks. From this board, we’ve been able to generate new leads and grow our email list.
Unsubscribe rate. Unsubscribes are always going to happen no matter what, and that’s usually OK because those people probably would never have bought from you anyway. However, a high unsubscribe rate can indicate that you are losing potential customers. Check the following: Why did people subscribe to your list in the first place, and are you delivering on that promise? Is the content of your autoresponder highly relevant to the segment it is being sent to? Are you sending too many sales emails with too little value emails?
This is honestly one of the best articles I’ve read all year on increasing opt-in rates. And my attention span these days is quite brief. With such a busy schedule, I don’t have time to read junk. Thanks for the great tips!
The Offer Finally, if/when you send out those “money” emails (especially for re-marketing purposes, which we will discuss later on), you need to test out offers. An extra 15-days to try the product, or a $10 discount for being on the newsletter? Should you offer an incentive to those who have signed up but haven’t gotten started with your product, or just send a reminder? Find out the answers with split-testing!
Here, the folks at TheSkimm took it a step further by asking Mineo if she’d like to earn the title of brand ambassador as a loyal subscriber — which would require her to share the link with ten friends, of course.
Again, each business has different needs, and there aren’t any hard and fast rules as to how often you can pitch or provide content, but remember that an email list is a permission asset and it’s better to err on the side of caution than to play it loose and reckless.
I agree with the testimonials, especially videos, because they’re truly convincing and give you authority as well. Pop-ups are two-sided for me. On one hand, they’re great for getting user emails for subscriptions. On the other, some folks just find them annoying. An enjoyable and informative post nonetheless. Thanks, Brian!
While almost all reputable email service providers work very hard to make sure that your emails are not blocked by major ISP’s, they can’t control whether or not your emails hit the inbox or the spam box. Although most will help you by providing a quality score to help you determine availability, getting whitelisted is the most effective way to ensure that your emails get delivered properly.
Mailchimp is really effective when it comes to email marketing campaigns. In fact I’m still using it. When it comes to digital marketing you should also include social media, since almost everybody is there.

This is a great list Stuart and it would take a lifetime or two to try to get to all of them. I currently have a mini network setup to create authority sites and I’m wondering if anyone would be interested in being part of the network to run their own niche category. You can almost think of it like a franchise where you are part of the whole where you get all the tools and resources necessary to get up and running and I’ll offer the ongoing support as well as growing the brand to get you the traffic. It’s a new idea I have and looking for anyone that may be interested.
In the future, we’ll talk about more advanced techniques, such as measuring the cost of lead acquisition, but for now know this: your email list is one of your most valuable resources, and if you learn how to treat it right, the cost of doing so will pay for itself.
This practice is especially effective with new sign-ups and sweepstakes entries, as these types of subscribers tend to be more eager and excited to spread the word to friends and family. Tap into this enthusiasm, and use timing to your advantage by providing an opportunity for referral immediately after a user has opted in.
As of mid-2016 email deliverability is still an issue for legitimate marketers. According to the report, legitimate email servers averaged a delivery rate of 73% in the U.S.; six percent were filtered as spam, and 22% were missing. This lags behind other countries: Australia delivers at 90%, Canada at 89%, Britain at 88%, France at 84%, Germany at 80% and Brazil at 79%.[10]
The simplest form of personalization is to address the reader by name. Most email service providers (ESP) offer this within their functionality and this tactic alone will improve your campaign performance.
2. They turn prospect into customers by helping you to build “know, like and trust” before you ask for the sale. Then you can make your pitch at the best possible moment, and you can do it without being overly “salesy” or pushy.
Content upgrade popups increase abandon rate and as a result, hurting your seo. For me, I don’t care much if I got more subscriber each day. But for the best, there should be gaining without losing. Perhaps put a video in the popup would help?
In the broadest sense, any email sent to a subscriber list of customers or prospects can be considered email marketing. Email messages used to send special offers to solicit sales or donations, and any email communication that is meant to build loyalty and trust or brand awareness can be considered an email marketing campaign.
Pop-up squeeze pages are annoying as hell – you’ll often find them floating on top of content you’re attempting to read, distracting and harassing you until you give up your email address or manage to find the (oftentimes camouflaged) X button.
LeadPages* – This is a platform designed to help you create landing pages fast, it takes care of the hosting and integrates with WordPress while allowing you to download HTML to use with other systems. Price starts from $37/month. I use this for most of my landing pages.
The bank paid more than $185 million to the government and consumers to resolve its fake accounts scandal, contributing to a more than 4% decline in 2016 profits. But Wells Fargo still netted nearly $22 billion in earnings last year. One of the largest consumer banks in America, Wells Fargo (wfc) is also benefiting from higher interest rates, and its sales grew almost 5% in 2016.
We suggest sending an email at least once a month to keep your subscribers engaged, but don’t feel you need to commit to this immediately. And be sure to look ahead and plan accordingly if you think your sending frequency will change for special events and holidays—you don’t want to surprise customers if you typically send once a month but suddenly start sending a stream of emails leading up to a Black Friday sales event.
Navigation Bar: People often expect email signup and login buttons placed at the top of websites in the navigation bar or in the footer. Use that space for a button that urges visitors to subscribe. For example, the Centre for Social Innovation has their newsletter signup box in that location.
Before landing at LeadPages, I worked for a marketing agency that exclusively represented law firms, and it took me awhile to learn both the Internet marketing vocabulary and the legal jargon. Soon enough, I caught on—and then I came to LeadPages where, of course, plenty of terms were Greek to me once again.
Marketing experts recommend websites remove the navigation menu and limit internal and external links on the page.[7] The form length mirrors the value of the offer[clarification needed]. They may also include a relevant image, animation or short video. These pages also tend to contain small icons (i.e. of Facebook, or Twitter) to facilitate social media sharing.
You won’t have to fall into that camp though, because today we’re going to go over how to take your startup’s blog and refine it into a conversion building machine—and the best part is that simplicity is the foundational element, so you won’t have to worry about coding up a ton of random features.
You might also need to narrow down your audience by sending a campaign to a targeted segment, or change how often you send. And to improve your click rates, consider using more descriptive link text. “Click here” tells your subscribers nothing about where a link in your campaign will take them.
Great post Brian. As someone that has stupidly not concentrated on building my list till recently I found this post invaluable to get my list building on the right track. Thank you for this informative and easily understandable post. Bookmarked and shared.
A splash page is another way to implement a squeeze page. Splash pages are custom pages users are sent to when they first visit your homepage. Having your splash page also serve as a squeeze page means more eyeballs on your offer. The risk is that some visitors may immediately click away from your squeeze page, leaving your site entirely and never even seeing your real homepage! To prevent this, it’s best to include a big old “no thanks” buttons that lets users easily head straight to your homepage. Usually on a squeeze page you don’t want to direct users away, but on a splash page it’s a bit different – users are trying to get to your homepage, so you should still make it easy for them to get there. You’re just throwing them an offer before you let them head home. If you love something, set it free!
Again, each business has different needs, and there aren’t any hard and fast rules as to how often you can pitch or provide content, but remember that an email list is a permission asset and it’s better to err on the side of caution than to play it loose and reckless.
In 2011, on two occasions (Google “Panda” and “Farmer” in February and June), the major search engines adjusted their algorithms to more accurately rank and sometimes exclude squeeze pages that are considered to be “spam” due to their lack of content. In addition, some marketers have seen their pay-per-click campaigns being penalized by restrictions that prevent “affiliates” from purchasing pay-per-click advertising to build opt-in lists for future sales. In response, marketers have begun to increase the amount of content included on Squeeze pages to ensure that their page maintains its search result rankings.
If a visitor gets through your entire website without opting in, grab them one last time before they go. Set a lightbox to appear asking for an email address whenever someone is about to navigate away from your website or blog.
You might have good content going out to your more established subscribers, but is it the right content for someone who’s just getting to know you? If not, consider this two-part strategy for onboarding new subscribers and maximizing engagement and conversion:
Wow….this was a well explained detailed study, and I totally agree with you pop up boxes or slider for subscriptions do work but don’t you think at the same time they do irritate the visitors and I think first impression is the last impression.

Great breakdown on operating a successful email campaign. Personally, email campaigns are most effective when I can finally get to chat with the customer one on one via email. I try to avoid the auto-response if possible because I hate to receive automated responses myself.

Segment by sales cycle: Early stage buyers will not be ready for an aggressive sales pitch or one-to-one demo but, they will be more appreciative to receive an industry research white paper. On the other end of the cycle, buyers who are ready to buy will respond well to product webinars or free trial offers.

Twitter and Facebook widgets – these are an easy way to send people away from your site and email is far more effective at reaching people than social. I display basic follow buttons in my footer so I can keep the focus on email subscribers.
In fact, if you try to get users to provide an email in exchange for a video, some users may jump on over to YouTube to find the video on their own, which is a major marketing fail! That’s why I didn’t include video on the list above – online users are just way too accustomed to getting videos in exchange for nothing at all. The key is to stay subtle and be discreet about your true intentions.
It can be tough coming up with compelling content your subscribers love on a regular basis, and the pressure to do so can be fierce. But keeping these tips for creating and gathering content in mind when you’re creating a campaign will help you find the best way to talk with your readers.
Email marketing is a great way to stay in touch with past clients and prospects, but it’s not enough. You must also continue to build your list by adding new people all the time. Hopefully, you’re already doing this online. What about asking “offline” (the good old-fashioned way)?
Subject Lines Chapter 4 offered best practices to utilize in your subject lines as well as some engagement killers to avoid, but open-rates can always be maximized by sending out variations to small segments of your list to see which one resonates the most.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at how hard it is to find a signup link on some websites. Make sure to display your signup form prominently with a strong call-to-action (CTA), and don’t be afraid to feature it in more than one place.
You can also insert funny animated GIFs into your emails, or a funny video. Again, you don’t need to be a comedian to inject humor and personality into your emails, you just need to think outside the box.
We just started using MailChimp because it seems to be the only one that offers a free account for small or new users. The problem is that there are so many steps for a potential subscriber to go through with both double opt-in and recaptcha, that we are getting at best complaints to worst, plain nasty comments posted on our Facebook page. We don’t know how many would be subscribers we lost because of this.
At an open house, or a trade show or conference, you could hold a giveaway in which you collect business cards in a bowl for a chance to win a prize. However, make sure that the language on a sign is clear so people know they’re agreeing to join your mailing list. Again, document where and when they gave you their card.

Do you have an app for that? I know Buffer is a popular one, but i’m looking for something that you can create a reservoir of evergreen content and the app will just pull from that on a regular basis, forever.
Your first email to your subscriber would have the incentive you promised – the discount, free guide, link to a download, etc. The next email, sent a few days later, would follow up with the subscriber, asking how they liked the incentive. The next email, sent a few days later, would let subscribers know about some products and services that will be of interest based on the free incentive they received.

Precisely nothing, of course—and if I know it, your prospect knows it. So once again you are drawing attention to the fact that you’re harvesting his details. Add to that the fact that even two fields (name and email) is twice as many as one, and therefore represents twice as much friction—and thus potentially half the conversion rate. You have to wonder if it is really worth it.
Once you’ve decided on your incentive, your next job is to create a landing page – sometimes called a squeeze page. A squeeze page is simply a page on your website that is 100% focused on getting people to subscribe to your mailing list. Here’s what we mean:
If this is the first page you’ve come to on the Building Guide, have a look around if you’re building or renovating. We have a load of advice around key things you need to know, some hints and tips and advice around insurances or  guaranteeing your builder and their work, financing your project, costs of building and product options that will help your project run smoother, give you what you want and reduce the likelihood of things going wrong…
You want to offer your “Free Plan” customers a chance to upgrade, so you propose a 20% off coupon be sent to their inbox, but you have 3 pretty important things to test that you know will impact how well the email does.
I’ve yet to find a free solution for creating landing pages that is worth using. Most of the ones I’ve tried come with limited templates or it takes so long to make landing pages that look good that I may as well have paid for another tool.
You want to be present everywhere your target audience is (blogs, forums, social media etc) and constantly ‘in their face’ (in a good way) delivering value and being helpful in order to drive them back to your site.
These are the most obvious statistics for measuring campaign engagement, as they indicate how well your subject lines and campaign content resonates with a particular list. But it’s important to consider how your open and click rates compare to other companies in your industry—otherwise you’re looking at your statistics in a vacuum. Our data science team has calculated some average email marketing benchmarks—open rate, click rate, unsubscribe rate, abuse rate, soft bounces, hard bounces—based on industry and company size so you can see how your company’s statistics compare.
If you are having trouble with this, send out an email asking for a quick five minute chat. On the call, you can ask questions that will help you understand what your subscribers needs are, and how they think.

It would stand to reason that an improved economy would mean higher profits for private schools and other educational institutions, despite generally high operational spending going toward instructional staff and maintenance costs. We use phrases such as “Click here to read XYZ.” This may seem obvious, but we’ve found that trying to be less clever with calls-to-action and speaking more directly to subscribers has really boosted click-through rates in newsletter broadcasts.
I’ve yet to find a free solution for creating landing pages that is worth using. Most of the ones I’ve tried come with limited templates or it takes so long to make landing pages that look good that I may as well have paid for another tool.
One challenge one is faced with is driving targeted traffic to these sites in order to improve sales. Almost all niches have their potentials but making the best out of the niches would come fom working hard and smart.
“Saying goodbye is never easy to do… So, we thought we’d give you a chance to rethink things”. That was the subject of this automated unsubscribe email from HireVue. We love the simple, guilt-free messaging here, from the funny header images to the great call-to-action button copy.
So I respectfully disagree that we shouldn’t try to motivate people coming to the homepage into opting in. That’s the very first thing we should be doing. For most businesses, the website is just the mechanism for making sales. The actual motivation to buy comes from the email sequence. That is where all the persuasion takes place.
Thanks Rob. Single opt-in is definitely something to consider. I’m personally a fan of double optin because (as you said) you get less bad emails. But it’s a decision that depends on the person and business 🙂
So how do the most engaged newsletters keep their open and click-through rates so high? The secret boils down to using proven psychological principles that invoke curiosity, grab the reader, and compel them to take action.
What goes better with a new prescription than a new pair of glasses? The folks at Warby Parker made that connection very clear in their email to a friend of mine back in 2014. It’s an older email, but it’s such a good example of personalized email marketing that I had to include it in here.
With a foundation of opted-in contact information stored in their database, marketers can send out promotional materials automatically using autoresponders—known as drip marketing. They can also segment their promotions to specific market segments.[15]
22) Encourage prospects in a traditional marketing campaign, like direct mail, to opt in to receive email communications instead. Include a shortened URL with UTM parameters to an online signup, and allow readers to opt out of direct mail. You’ll even save some trees in the process!
It’s also essential not to rely only upon search engine traffic and focus more on building your subscriber base so you can attract as many people as possible to your product or landing pages whenever you want. That way you will be making a lot more money than building an Amazon affiliate site.
I’ve used several other providers, but just wasn’t happy with the results. I had heard about AWeber for ages from the top blogging gurus. I finally decided to do a trial membership, and I was completely impressed. It’s ease of use instantly got my attention and helped me know it was the right program for me.
Message Matching is the idea of matching the pre-click message to the post-click message on the landing page.[11] The goal of message matching is to create a landing page that directs individuals to a page on a product or subject they are expecting.
Email 9: Two hours before closing. This is where you go full scarcity and focus on the change people want to make in their lives. How much do they really want to solve their problem/accomplish their goal?
This statistic shows the most profitable leading companies worldwide in 2016. Leading companies being those members of the top 500 global companies in terms of annual revenue, the top 100 of which can be found here. Apple had a net income of about 53.39 billion U.S. dollars in the fiscal year 2016. Not only was Apple was ranked first in net income but led the ranking of companies by market value. Apple’s market value was estimated at 752 billion U.S. dollars.
It’s relatable, yet positive. We’ve seen many tests indicate relatable lifestyle shots perform better than studio photos and boring headshots. If your image features people, make sure those people resemble a slightly better—but achievable—version of your target audience. Inspiring images, whether they’re showing people at their best or simply a beautiful vista, are also a good choice.
Not only are the design and copy here top-notch, but we applaud the folks at HireVue for sending automated unsubscribe emails in the first place. It’s smart to purge your subscriber lists of folks who aren’t opening your email lists, because low open rates can seriously hurt email deliverability.
While content marketing has proven itself to be the best strategy for bootstrapped startups, the problem is that most company blogs are poorly designed for conversions, focusing on featuring useless items like social media banners and category links.
Looking good – Wish we had this article a few days ago! (After wasting many hours searching and comparing them all) We tried most of the above (Except ConvertKit, will check them out) but we found this little gem, SmartMailer.com worth considering for the next article as they offer more free subscribers and better priced than most.
saying up to the mark would be a small word for you. Whatever you share gives a lot of quality to our knowledge. Its a wonderful list. Right now i am working on the 17 untapped backlink techniques, will start working on it once i am done with it.
I appreciate you sharing this great article! If you’re still sending mass emails without updating your email marketing strategies, you’d noticed that results are disappointing, despite your efforts in updating your mailing lists and creating emails. If you aren’t getting clicks, most likely you’ve been wasting your time. However, these tips are game changers, I bet these would help a lot. A must read!
Wow! Such extensive list! You’ve just summarized everything from niche to creating a website to online marketing. Great ideas on these niches as it covers the most in-demand searches nowadays and it considers Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and that includes hobbies and interests. Thanks for putting this all together!

5) Reinvigorate a stale email list with an opt-in campaign. Do you have an older list that you think is mostly decayed? Create an engaging opt-in message and send it to your old list encouraging contacts who wish to re-opt-in and promising to remove all contacts who don’t respond. Though it might seem counterintuitive to remove folks from your email lists in order to grow them, emailing only engaged contacts could improve your deliverability and increase the odds of your email getting shared with those outside your current contacts database.
This article is informative, but it does not offer distinguishing features between the services covered (other than mailchimp is free). You seemed to go to great lengths to say good things about each – although I’m sure each services has positive aspects. I would have benefited much more from a rating of some sort of the various features of each service, or at least the pros & cons of each.
One of the smarter ways to gather email leads online is to simply integrate email into your product’s usage. The most basic technique here is requiring an email to sign up (which most companies do), but this is also an opportunity to get creative.
Email marketing develops large amounts[vague] of traffic through smartphones and tablets. Marketers are researching ways to advertise to more users and to make them view advertising for longer. However, the rate of delivery is still relatively low due to better filtering-out of advertising and users having multiple email accounts for different purposes. Because emails are generated according to the tracked behavior of consumers, it is possible to send advertising which is based on the recipient’s behavior. Because of this, modern email marketing is perceived more often as a pull strategy rather than a push strategy.[citation needed]
To find some of the the best existing content do a simple Google search for your keyword(s) (James has an excellent post on finding keywords in a short time) and find the highest ranking articles – this is some of the most popular content in the niche.
I have some bad news: Your email marketing database degrades by about 22.5% every year. Your contacts’ email addresses change as they move from one company to another, opt-out of your email communication, or abandon that old AOL address they only use to fill out forms on websites.
The New Jersey-based telecom behemoth exceeded Wall Street expectations with a profit surge of 85% over the course of 2015, totaling $17.9 billion. Verizon (vz) attracted 4.5 million new wireless subscribers last year—the hard-earned fruit of sales promotions, tablet deals, and a new mobile video service aimed at attracting teens. The company’s performance was also driven by high customer retention despite stiff competition from lower-cost wireless providers, in addition to steady increases in wireline growth.

You do not want to use a POPUP that blocks your entire page. If you do that Google Search will penalize you. So don’t do that. However, you can use smart popups that don’t block your whole page and they work great.
I too hate pop-ups and ET is a bad offender. I have been building a site using Devi and, as a beginner, I am constantly referring back to the documentation pages, help, my own page, the devi live examples, the ET home pages and so on. Working intensively by returning to these pages a great many times a day means constant, really annoying pop up offering % off in new level of membership. ANd even after clicking the x it just moves to the bottom poking its ratty little head out, only to keep popping up repeatedly. Spare us please! This is the only agressive marketing nuisance on the whole site – bad policy, bad psychology and total turn off.
In the same vein, content should be kept to a minimum on a squeeze page (at least above the fold – we’ll get into that in a bit). Content bloat only distracts from your offer. That’s another thing – you’ll want a convincing offer. Something shiny, enticing, and desirable. Your offer needs to be worth surrendering an email address for – in online terms an email address is equivalent to a slice of your soul.
In fact, if we take the contentious “forcing a flier into the customer’s hands” angle out, I’d be willing to bet you could build a HIGHLY successful retail business by offering a free initial purchase up to a value of $50, in exchange for the right to send customers regular offers on similar deals 🙂
Despite sustained efforts to boost its commercial banking operations, Wells Fargo (wfc) reported a generally flat year from the perspective of profit. 2014 profits of $23.1 billion dipped a fraction of a percentage to $22.9 billion in 2015. In spite of a lackluster annual performance, the San Francisco-based corporation has poised itself for big growth. Last October, the banking giant acquired GE Capital’s commercial lending and leasing businesses for the price of $32 billion.

There’s nothing set in stone about how often you should email your customers, but if you send too often, your subscribers are likely to tune out what you have to say or unsubscribe altogether. Some users that run a blog or news website might choose to send daily updates to their subscribers, while other users like Bee’s Wrap only send twice a month so subscribers stay excited about their emails.
Another good incentive is a free piece of content that your target customer would find valuable and would put your subscriber into a buying frame of mind. Here are a couple of ideas to get you started.

Or, if you visualize your marketing campaign as a funnel, you can think of your squeeze page as the point where that funnel suddenly narrows. After marketing to a broader initial audience, you’ve captured the attention of the most interested prospects with this page. Now, your goal is to pull them through the other side of the funnel as a customer.
Not only was this initial email great, but his response to my answers was even better: Within a few days of responding to the questionnaire, I received a long and detailed personal email from Matt thanking me for filling out the questionnaire and offering a ton of helpful advice and links to resources specifically catered to my answers. I was very impressed by his business acumen, communication skills, and obvious dedication to his readers.

I’m from Spain and recently the European Union have changed laws about email marketing and some services from non european companys wasn’t adapted to the new laws. I’ve read that mailrelay (european company) was adapted to this news laws.

One option is to use a specific theme for squeeze pages. SqueezeMe is the only one available on the WordPress theme section. It is a one-page site that’s very simple but has full WordPress functionality, so you can add a blog and other bits to the site. However, the example provided isn’t the best example of a squeeze page as it looks rather “salesy” with a dubious product.
Apps like Pocket, Evernote, and Pinterest are great for saving and organizing content you’d like to use in your campaigns. Check out Really Good Emails, too. They feature the most beautiful, elegant, and thoughtful emails companies like you are sending.

With a foundation of opted-in contact information stored in their database, marketers can send out promotional materials automatically using autoresponders—known as drip marketing. They can also segment their promotions to specific market segments.[15]
Daily deal sites can be useful for retail or local service businesses. Offer your discount (daily deal) through the site for a limited time and ask anyone who wants to grab the deal to provide their email address in exchange.
But while automations are designed to take some of the work and effort out of engaging with your customers, your emails should show that you care. You should take time to research what your customers like to help make your emails sound human and personal. Above all, marketing automation is an opportunity to deepen your relationship with your customers.
Many email newsletter software vendors offer transactional email support, which gives companies the ability to include promotional messages within the body of transactional emails. There are also software vendors that offer specialized transactional email marketing services, which include providing targeted and personalized transactional email messages and running specific marketing campaigns (such as customer referral programs).[citation needed]
There’s no question how important email marketing is when it comes to adding to your bottom line, in fact, research shows that for every dollar spent on email marketing, companies made on average $40 back.  When compared to other channels, email subscribers are more responsive, they have a stronger connection with your business, and they buy more of your products.

The bottom line on email send time is this: imagine a day in the life of your particular audience. What are they doing in the morning, afternoon, and evening? What does their workday look like? How late do they stay up at night? How early do they rise in the morning?
You are a genius! I have been playing around with this (in wordpress) but how did you make your splash page the 1st they see, yet in your navigation when you click HOME it takes you to a different home page. What is your set up? How can you make a stand alone page in wordpress and how do you make it show up first?
Editorial Staff, you are a genius! I didn’t even think to use that feature. I am going to look into it and add it as a reader tip into the post. So smart! I bet all the soccer parents love the cute emails
Personalization Since it will be important in some cases to gather a subscriber’s name from a sign-up form, you’d be wise to test to see if this has a significant impact on open-rates & click-throughs. In some instances seeing a name in the subject line (or intro) will do wonders; in others it may confuse people into thinking your message is spam.
You probably receive enough emails as it is, and it’s tough to know which newsletters are worth subscribing to, so we’ve curated a list of some of our favorite examples. You want to offer your “Free Plan” customers a chance to upgrade, so you propose a 20% off coupon be sent to their inbox, but you have 3 pretty important things to test that you know will impact how well the email does.
Layout Especially important for HTML emailers, we found out this lesson ourselves when we saw better newsletter engagement from going from 3 calls to action in one broadcast down to only one. Those selling a variety of products (a la eCommerce) will also want to closely experiment with this variable.
I completely agree that Email Marketing one of the best channels for sales. Also, with the aim to get better results, you need to monitor your competitors newsletters and their offers. It’s good way to find new insights and differentiate your email marketing strategy from them.
And that leads us right into understanding service pricing and packaging. The services we reviewed range from about $5 per month to as much as $20 per month for a range of features. Many email marketing plans include unlimited email sends each month and bill you based on the number of subscribers. If you have a small list, look for a company that offers a free plan, a low-cost plan for several hundred subscribers, or even a pay-as-you-go plan. On the flip side, many of these services also offer high-volume plans with up to 100,000 or more contacts. Sometimes this requires a custom plan that has to be arranged directly with a sales rep. If you’re willing to commit, some companies offer discounts if you pay by the year rather than month by month. A few offer money-back guarantees.

Instead, the page should make it clear what you want your customers to do. A squeeze page isn’t about tricking your readers; the exchange of information is a transparent transaction. So the content should almost suggest that the reader take the offer or leave it and move to another page. A time limit to the offer can help with this.
Email marketing is significantly cheaper and faster than traditional mail, mainly because of the high cost and time required in a traditional mail campaign for producing the artwork, printing, addressing, and mailing.

Are the ones added to the end of this list new or recent additions to the list? Macrame and military diet are two weird niches I am surprised to see. I wonder how viable they would be as website? Have you done any additional research on them that I can access?
I recently had my MailChimp account suspended. One of my sites is in the ‘make money online’ space. It’s a completely legitimate website, but apparently if your emails contain keywords they don’t like, they will suspend you. I would not recommend using them. Contacting support I just get form responses that are completely unhelpful. There’s no phone support- just account termination. Really bad experience. Luckily, this is a very new site- but imagine if you have thousands of emails and they just shut you down without ANY recourse.
At the bottom of your blog posts. If people make it to the end of your blog post, chances are they enjoyed your content and are ready to take action. Having a strategically placed form here gives them a clear option for what to do next.
Hi Jennie. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it. For me, the best way to increase the ROI of email marketing is to segment your audience. Treat your subscribers like individuals and create campaigns that are tailored to their needs. That’s where I would start if I were to create an email marketing strategy.
At LeadPages, we offer customizable squeeze page templates that are perfect for beginners. Our clean designs are proven to perform well, and you can sort them by conversion rate to see how they are working for other businesses.
Here’s an example of an email I once received from this brand. Design-wise, it’s nothing special — but that’s the point. It reads just like an email from a friend or colleague asking for a quick favor.
Popups are universally despised by web users. In one survey by usability researcher Jakob Nielsen, 95% of users reported that their online experience was affected “negatively or very negatively” by design elements that popped up in front of their windows. 93% reported the same for elements which covered what they were trying to see.
Not only are the design and copy here top-notch, but we applaud the folks at HireVue for sending automated unsubscribe emails in the first place. It’s smart to purge your subscriber lists of folks who aren’t opening your email lists, because low open rates can seriously hurt email deliverability.
I’ve used several other providers, but just wasn’t happy with the results. I had heard about AWeber for ages from the top blogging gurus. I finally decided to do a trial membership, and I was completely impressed. It’s ease of use instantly got my attention and helped me know it was the right program for me.
A common example of permission marketing is a newsletter sent to an advertising firm’s customers. Such newsletters inform customers of upcoming events or promotions, or new products.[14] In this type of advertising, a company that wants to send a newsletter to their customers may ask them at the point of purchase if they would like to receive the newsletter.
At the high end, the Fortune 500’s biggest earners boast bottom lines larger than many world economies, with profits eclipsing the gross domestic product (GDP) of countries such as Tanzania and Iceland. And some of the companies that rank among the most profitable in the 500 may surprise you, as they are nowhere near the top in terms of sales. Meanwhile Walmart (wmt), which at No. 1 on the Fortune 500 has more than twice as much revenue as any other company on the list, doesn’t even make the top 10 when it comes to profits. Even without tax reform and other political changes that are expected to boost earnings further, these 10 companies are making the most money in all of corporate America.
An email course is also particularly easy to justify because people absorb information best in small, actionable chunks. So you’re doing your prospect a favor by not giving him a half-hour video he’ll quit watching after the first two minutes, or a 15-page PDF he’ll just put into his giant folder of unread documents.
Email 9: Two hours before closing. This is where you go full scarcity and focus on the change people want to make in their lives. How much do they really want to solve their problem/accomplish their goal?
If you’ve connected your store to MailChimp and turned on e-commerce link tracking for your campaigns, you can view purchase data for your subscribers in campaign reports, subscriber profiles, and on the account dashboard. Your reports will show you how much money your campaigns and automations make, as well as total orders and their average revenue.
We’re pretty satisfied with how MailChimp gets the job done minus without their prices being so steep. Do you know how MailChimp can be integrated with Autotask? Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Message Matching is the idea of matching the pre-click message to the post-click message on the landing page.[11] The goal of message matching is to create a landing page that directs individuals to a page on a product or subject they are expecting.
Everyone likes the feeling of being in on something exclusive. Offer your email subscribers something only they can get. It might be a special discount. It could be access to a video, e-book or another piece of useful content. Promote the availability of this exclusive access in order to encourage more email enrollments.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a newbie, experienced, or just short of cash – this really is the one to get. Full of step-by-step guides, free downloads, and absolutely tons of free bonus’s, this really is a must have.
MailChimp has a free plan for up to 2,000 subscribers. However, if you want to use autoresponders or any other powerful feature, then you will have to switch to a paid plan. Paid plans start as low as $10/month and can go up to $35 for 2,500 subscribers. The bigger your list size, the more you’re going to pay.
In fact, if we take the contentious “forcing a flier into the customer’s hands” angle out, I’d be willing to bet you could build a HIGHLY successful retail business by offering a free initial purchase up to a value of $50, in exchange for the right to send customers regular offers on similar deals 🙂
One challenge one is faced with is driving targeted traffic to these sites in order to improve sales. Almost all niches have their potentials but making the best out of the niches would come fom working hard and smart.
The performance of the squeeze page itself is fantastic. You have multiple choices of where to place your pop up across different pages of your website. The pop up can be unblockable and the opt in can be a two-step process, increasing your conversion. Choose to allow the pop up to appear on exit intention or after a specific amount of time.
If you use Google Analytics, you can add tracking to your campaigns to pass Google data to your campaign reports, or use conversion tracking in Google Analytics to track subscribers who click a link in your campaign all the way through to a purchase.
Segmenting you list is proven to increase your email open rates, boost your click rates, and decrease your unsubscribe rates. That’s why smart marketers use segmentation to drastically improve the effectiveness of their email campaigns.
